HC Deb 19 December 1991 vol 201 c282W
Mr. Kirkwood

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what new medical evidence he has received regarding the connection between the atomic tests on Christmas Island and subsequent cancer and cancer-related disease.

Mr. Archie Hamilton

The Ministry of Defence will pay appropriate compensation whenever the Crown's legal liability is established. There is, however, no firm evidence to show that any ill-health suffered by those who attended the tests was caused by their participation. This is supported by the last report on the subject by the National Radiological Protection Board—which continues to accumulate data and will produce a further report.
