§ Mr. RentonOn 1 April 1991 there were 3,156 women in grades 1 to 7 and equivalents. This represents just over 12 per cent. of all staff in these grades, up from almost 7 per cent. in 1984 when the programme of action to achieve equality of opportunity for women in the civil service was launched.
