To ask the Minister for the Civil Service if he will make a statement about progress under the "Next Steps" initiative.

"Next Steps" is progressing well. On 19 November the Central Statistical Office was launched as the 57th agency: now almost 40 per cent. of the civil service is covered, with more to come. The Government's second "Next Steps" annual review, published last month, shows agencies meeting and beating targets for quality of service, financial performance and efficiency. It gives many instances of improved service to customers.
