To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what grants are made available to the Northern development corporation; and whether he has discussed with it the case for devoting more interest and attention to Cumbria.

The Northern Development Company has been offered a grant of £1.33 million in the current financial year for its inward investment promotion activities in the north-west of England. DTI funding for inward investment in the north-east, including Cumbria, is provided through INWARD, which receives a grant of £990,000.
