To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how long has Lorrain Osman now been in prison on remand.

Mr. Osman was held on remand only from 7 December 1985 until 1 June 1987. On that date he was committed to custody by the chief metropolitan stipendiary magistrate to await the Secretary of State's order for his surrender. The Secretary of State has been prevented from completing his consideration of the extradition request from Hong Kong because of the series of appeals initiated by Mr. Osman, the last of which is outstanding.
