§ Mr. CohenTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will make a statement on the progress made by the working party studying reform of the Data Protection Act; what recent relevant international developments there have been; and whether any new legislation is envisaged in the near future.
§ Mrs. RumboldWe are currently considering the report of the interdepartmental committee appointed to review the Data Protection Act 1984. The Government have also received recently a draft of a directive on data protection, and associated measures, from the European Commission. Legislation is unlikely before the directive has been adopted.
