Lord Dormand of Easington

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What has been the cost of promoting and implementing the scheme to recruit licensed teachers, and how many such teachers have been appointed.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of the Environment (Baroness Blatch)

Under the Local Education Authority Training Grants Scheme the department allocated funds in support of expenditure of £2.36 million for the financial year 1990–91 to assist local education authorities with the cost of training licensed teachers. Bids from 69 local education authorities for the financial year 1991–92 are under consideration.
