To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many new courthouses have been opened in England and Wales in each of the last three years.

Eleven new courthouses were opened during the period 1987–89—one in 1988 and 10 in 1989. In addition, four others had major improvements carried out to existing buildings.
