HC Deb 01 November 1990 vol 178 c727W
8. Mr. Gregory

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a statement on the figures for reported crime in North Yorkshire for 1989.

Mr. John Patten

There were 35,774 offences recorded by the police in North Yorkshire during 1989. This was an increase of 3 per cent, over the previous year. Over 90 per cent, of these offences were crimes against property where effective preventive measures in support of the police by the public can help reduce the opportunities for crime.
