HC Deb 24 May 1990 vol 173 c317W
Mr. Boswell

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security if he has considered the effect of the introduction of the age-related addition in severe disablement allowance on 16 and 17-year-olds in receipt of income support; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Scott

Nearly 9,000 16 and 17-year-olds were receiving severe disablement allowance in April 1988. It is estimated that about 4,000 who will qualify for the age addition in December will no longer need to be dependent on income support.
