To ask the Secretary of State for Health what is the prevalence of infertility in England.

This information is not collected centrally. The White Paper "Human Fertilisation and Embryology: A Framework for Legislation" (Cm. 259) published in November 1987 indicated that about one in 10 couples are thought to be infertile and a greater number are estimated to seek specialist help at some stage.
