To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a statement on the reorganisation of sixth forms in Basildon.

Mr. Alan Howarth

On 24 January 1990 my right hon. Friend approved proposals to reorganise secondary and further education in the Basildon and Wickford areas. Several local comprehensive schools will now lose their sixth forms, and educational provision for pupils aged 16 to 19 will be concentrated in a new tertiary college.
