Mr. Vaz

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what is the level of Government expenditure for each year since 1979 on family planning services.

The available information relates to expenditure on health authority community health services, including overheads, the contraceptive fees paid to general practitioners and the estimated net ingredient cost of contraceptive drugs and appliances prescribed by GPs and dispensed by retail pharmacy and appliance contractors.

In each year since 1979 for which full figures are available, these components give an estimated total cost as follows:
