HC Deb 05 June 1990 vol 173 cc503-5W
Mr. Paice

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will provide details of (i) the total expenditure of INSET by each local education authority, (ii) the average expenditure per teacher for INSET by each local education authority, (iii) the national average expenditure per teacher for INSET, and (iv) the total number of teachers in each local education authority who attended INSET within both the primary and secondary sector for the year 1989–90, or the year for which most recent figures are available.

Mr. Alan Howarth

The latest available information for the year 1989–90 is set out in the table. It refers to estimated total expenditure, from all sources, for INSET for school teachers. My right hon. Friend expects all school teachers to have received some INSET during the five non-contact days provided for in teachers' conditions of service.
