§ Mr. Ieuan Wyn JonesTo ask the Secretary of State for Health when he intends to publish(a) the study carried out by his Department into the school health service and (b) a manual of good practice guidance on the role of the school health service.
§ Mr. DorrellThe work carried out by the Department was designed to identify current issues in the school health 423W service in England as a first step in deciding whether national health service authorities needed any guidance on good practice and the role of the service. We are now discussing the findings with national health service general managers in England to determine the need for, and nature of, such a good practice guide, which would draw on the work done so far and take account of the changes introduced by the National Health Service and Community Care Act 1990. We aim to complete these discussions during the autumn and will consult on any draft guidance.
