§ Sir Eldon Griffiths
To ask the Secretary of State for Health (1) if he will publish a list of those hospitals that have not yet met in full the requirements of his circular containing the recommendations of the confidential report on perioperative deaths;
(2) if he is satisfied that all general hospitals have now met the standard required by his Department's recommendations contained in "Achieving A Balance" and the confidential report on perioperative deaths;
(3) if he will publish a list of those hospitals that have not yet met in full the requirements of his circular "Achieving A Balance."
§ Mrs. Virginia Bottomley
"Achieving A Balance" is a 10-year plan for action which is monitored annually by a technical sub-group consisting of members of the profession, NHS management and the Department.
The most recent reports for the year 1988–89 show that regional health authorities are making steady progress in the implementation of the plan. Individual hospitals are not required to report directly to the Department on their progress.
Information is not held centrally on which hospitals have not yet met the recommendations made in the independent professional report "National Confidential Enquiry into Perioperative Deaths 1989," published June 1990.
