HC Deb 25 July 1990 vol 177 c279W
Mr. Win Griffiths

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will give details of each occasion when Her Majesty's inspectors have investigated claims made under the bogus degree legislation involving the names of the institutions, the circumstances in which the investigations came to be made, the results of the investigations, the cost of each; and by whom these costs were borne.

Mr. Alan Howarth

I assume the hon. Member's interest is in the investigation of potentially fraudulent claims caught within the remit of the bogus degree legislation. It is not Her Majesty's inspectors' responsibility to investigate such claims. Under section 215(1) it is the duty of every local weights and measures authority to enforce the provisions of section 214 of the Act within their area.
