§ Mr. MichaelTo ask the Secretary of State for Health whether he will make it his policy to ensure that elderly people resident in homes for the elderly are provided with equivalent support from public funds irrespective of whether the homes are publicly or privately run.
§ Mr. FreemanThe White Paper "Caring for People" explained that we intend to bring the local authority rules for working out how much people in homes can afford to contribute towards their care and support into line with those used for income support purposes. Under our community care proposals local authorities will have to contribute more to the support of people in homes under their own management than to that of people in private homes but the personal financial position of residents will be the same.
