HC Deb 22 January 1990 vol 165 cc540-1W
Mr. Robertson

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if his Department is planning any additional expenditure during the current year for a teenage smoking prevention programme.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

In Scotland the main responsibility for promotion of health education and prevention of ill health lies with the Scottish health education group. It currently expects to spend about £297,000 on antismoking material and campaigns during the current financial year—an increase of £17,000 over its original estimate for the year. The Scottish committee for Action on Smoking and Health will receive grant-in-aid of £40,000 in 1989-90. Both organisations undertake anti-smoking initiatives directed at teenagers.
