HC Deb 21 February 1990 vol 167 c811W
1991. Dr. Thomas

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many extra jobs and sales have been achieved following the setting up of the craft initiative; and what were the original targets set for(a) 1988, (b) 1989, (c) 1990 and (d)

Mr. Peter Walker

The craft initiative was launched in early 1988 with the overall aim of boosting sales and jobs in the Welsh craft industry by at least 50 per cent. within three years of the start of the initiative (April 1988). An evaluation of the campaign's impact on the industry will be carried out once the final year, which starts on 1 April 1990, is complete.

Dr. Thomas

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales which of the consultants and consultancies involved in the initial review of the craft industry have subsequently had contracts with or provided services to(a) his Department, (b) the Welsh Development Agency and (c) the Development Board for Rural Wales; and what is the worth of these contracts or services.

Mr. Peter Walker

The craft initiative review was carried out by Tony Ball Associates. Since the review was completed in 1988, Mr. Ball and his company have undertaken no paid work in connection with the craft initiative for my Department.

I am not responsible for or consulted on contracts placed by the WDA or the DBRW and have therefore asked them to provide the hon. Gentleman with the information he is seeking.
