To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is his latest estimate of the yield from and cost of collection of capital gains tax in the current financial year.

[holding answer 1 February 1990]: The latest available forecast of receipts from capital gains tax for 1989–90 was given in the reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Cambridgeshire, South-East (Mr. Nice) on 23 January 1990, Official Report, column 622. The cost of collection is expected to be around 1.4 per cent. of those receipts.
