To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is his latest estimate of the yield from and cost of collection of stamp duty in the current financial year.

[holding answer 1 February 1990]: The latest forecast of receipts from stamp duties for 1989–90 was given in the reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Richmond and Barnes (Mr. Hanley) on 30 November 1989, (Official Report, column 431–32). The cost of collection is expected to be around 0.3 percent. of those receipts.
