§ Mr. Needham[holding answer 2 April 1990]: Forty-four HIV positive cases detected in Northern Ireland have not yet developed into full-blown AIDS.
The incidence of HIV infection and the number of AIDS cases in Northern Ireland are too small to provide a statistical basis on which to make meaningful projections of the likely rate of spread of AIDS.
§ Mr. MaginnisTo ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if Northern Ireland is to be included in the Government's programme of anonymous HIV serosurveys which began on 15 January.
§ Mr. Needham[holding answer 2 April 1990]: Depending on the results obtained from the pilot studies 761W now taking place in Great Britain, the DHSS will consider whether to introduce such a programe in Northern Ireland.
