HC Deb 30 November 1989 vol 162 c428W
69. Mr. David Martin

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what assessment he has made of the increased opportunities for the British economy following recent events in eastern Europe.

Mr. Norman Lamont

The Government very much welcome recent developments in eastern Europe. The dismantling of barriers to trade and investment and the freeing of eastern European economies which is likely to follow should provide opportunities for United Kingdom firms to greatly increase the business they do there.
