To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster when he intends to announce his decision on the Touche Ross report on the future of the national engineering laboratory.

My right hon. and noble Friend the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry is currently considering a report on the national engineering laboratory prepared by management consultants Touche Ross and hopes to make an announcement shortly concerning the future of the laboratory, including ownership.
