To ask the Secretary of State for Health how regional health authorities will be required to consult with the local community on proposals for hospitals seeking self-governing status.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

Regional health authorities will publicise fully-developed proposals in the relevant local or regional media as well as consulting community health councils. They will provide details of the application on request to members of the local community and pass on any responses to me so that I can take them into account in making my decision on the application.
