Mr. Dobson

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy what is the latest figure for the estimated spending in 1988–89 by his Department on(a) television advertising, (b) radio advertising, (c) newspaper advertising and (d) other promotional material; and what is the 1989–90 budget for each of these categories of spending.

The latest estimates of expenditure by my Department in 1988–89 in the following areas are:

(b) Radio advertising 1
(c) Press advertising including newspapers 2.4
(d) Other promotional material 1.3
1 £3,504 has been spent on radio advertising

Currently proposed expenditure for 1989–901 is:

(b) Radio advertising nil
(c) Press advertising including newspapers 0.5
(d) Other promotional material 0.7
1 Departmental expenditure on electricity privatisation will include expenditure on advertising although at present no decision has been taken on its size and timing.
