To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he has any plans to increase the amount of money available for investment in the railway system.

Mr. Channon

Yes. I expect investment by BR in the railway to be some £781 million this financial year, the highest in real terms since 1962. BR plans to increase its investment by a further 19 per cent. by 1991–92.
