HL Deb 05 June 1989 vol 508 cc712-3WA
Lord Moran

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many prosecutions there have been and how many convictions have been secured, in (a) Scotland, and (b) each of the 10 water authority areas of England and Wales under Sections 22 and 32 of the Salmon Act 1986 since it came into force.

Baroness Trumpington

I understand that, in Scotland, figures for prosecutions and conviction for these offences are not separately identifiable from the Scottish Home and Health Department's records. However, for England and Wales the information requested, as provided by the water authorities, is as follows:

Total Prosecutions Convictions secured
Northumbrian 2 2
North West 10 10
South West 11 10
Welsh 26 17

To date, no prosecutions have been brought by the Anglian, Severn Trent, Southern, Wessex, or Yorkshire water authorities.
