HC Deb 28 July 1989 vol 157 c970W
Mr. Home Robertson

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on the joint funding arrangements for support for people with mental illness in Lothian, including the location of new facilities and financial arrangements for both capital and revenue expenditure.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

Lothian health board, together with Lothian regional council, the district councils, and the voluntary sector, has developed a comprehensive plan for the provision of services for the mentally ill. Jointly funded projects play an increasingly important part in that provision. I recently announced the latest proposals, developed jointly by the health board, the regional council, the Church of Scotland and other voluntary agencies, involving the transfer of 90 mentally ill people back into the community at a capital cost to the NHS of £4 million. I have asked Lothian health board to let the hon. Member have the detailed information which he requested.
