HC Deb 28 July 1989 vol 157 cc969-70W
Mr. Dobson

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list the infertility services provided by each health board.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

I regret that this information is not held centrally.

Mr. Dobson

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the prevalence of infertility in Scotland.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

Information about the prevalence of infertility is not available since only a proportion of those affected will seek advice and treatment. Data on the numbers of those seeking advice and treatment are not held centrally.

Mr. Dobson

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland whether plans for the provision of infertility services are required to be included in the strategic plans of each health board.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

No. It is for individual health boards to determine, in the light of local circumstances and of the resources available to them, the extent to which they should make infertility services available in their areas and how such services should be organised.
