asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will place the new bureau of environmental information, announced on 10th July in Newcastle by the Secretary of State for the Environment, under the Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution, and if not why not.

There has been no announcement about a new bureau of environmental information. The Secretary of State for the Environment said in a speech to the Association of Municipal Authorities on 10th July that the Government were "considering how we can establish an official source of information which all can accept as accurate to take the facts out of political dispute". He has as yet come to no conclusion.
