HL Deb 26 July 1989 vol 510 cc1549-50WA
Lord Donaldson of Kingsbridge

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How frequently books at East Sutton Park Prison are changed by the local library service, and what steps are taken to ensure that library books are kept in good condition.

Earl Ferrers

The appropriate library authority, Kent County Council, arranges book stock exchange six times a year and this currently achieves the minimum 25 per cent. book stock renewal required by the agreement between the Prison Department and the Association of County Councils. East Sutton Park Prison is provided with the services of a professional librarian three times a week and education and prison staff monitor the use of books by inmates.
