HL Deb 26 July 1989 vol 510 c1550WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What are the grounds on which the Department of Education and Science's publication (HMI series Curriculum Matters 13) Environmental Education 5ߝ16 omitted all mention of the marine environment, and how it is proposed to remedy this omission.

Viscount Davidson

The principles of environmental education set out inCurriculum Matters 13 apply of course to the marine environment as well.

As the preface to Curriculum Matters 13 points out, it is the responsibility of the National Curriculum Council to take forward the work of the individual subject working groups and to give advice on cross-curricular themes, of which environmental education is one. Her Majesty's Inspectorate will be summarising the responses to Curriculum Matters 13 invited in the document and will also be advising the department and the National Curriculum Council.
