To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) if he has any proposals to issue licences for traditional pearl fishing in Scotland; and if he will make a statement;

(2) if he has considered proposals to place the freshwater mussel, margaritisera margaritisera, on the schedule of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 as a protected species; and if he will make a statement.

I am currently considering with my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Environment whether increased protection should be afforded to the freshwater pearl mussel.
