HC Deb 11 July 1989 vol 156 c437W
Mr. Galbraith

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if there are any plans to increase the maximum claim in the small claims procedure in the sheriff court; and if he will make a statement.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

The small claims procedure came into operation on 30 November 1988 and I understand that my noble and learned Friend the Lord Advocate has no plans at present to increase the upper financial limit of £750. The operation of the new procedure is being monitored by the central research unit of the Scottish Office and by a research team from the law schools of the universities of Strathclyde and Dundee.
