To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether there is any provision for a new commissioner of the European Community to take the oath in Welsh or in Gaelic.

The treaty does not specify the language to be used when giving the solemn undertaking. Commissioner MacSharry gave it in Irish.
