§ Lord Hyltonasked Her Majesty's Government:
In how many cases has human food infected with listeria been traced to individual poultry producers or to other farms; in each such case, whether infected feeding-stuffs were involved; and what other possible sources are being investigated.
§ The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Baroness Trumpington)Listeria Monocytogenes is widely distributed in the environment so that the contamination of food could occur at almost any stage. I have no evidence that any of the cases of contamination of human food with listeria are associated with particular producers or feeding-stuffs used on farms.
