Incineration is a safe and effective method of disposing of carcases of cattle suspected of having BSE.

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how many cases of bovine spongiform encephalopathy were identified in December 1988; and if he will make a statement.

In December 1988, 339 cases of BSE were confirmed by the laboratory examination of brain tissue.
