§ Mrs. RumboldNone. The grant-maintained schools trust is an independent body and it was for it to decide what steps to take. The trust was not described as a charity in any document issued by my Department.

§ Mrs. RumboldMy right hon. Friend and I met the chairman and director of the trust in October last year and in February this year. Matters discussed included the number of schools making inquiries to the trust about grant-maintained status and a possible future role for the trust in helping any schools approved for grant-maintained status prepare for their new role.
