§ Mr. Goodlad
To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many local authority residential places are currently available for those discharged from mental illness hospitals in Scotland; what is the current rate of occupancy; and what are the projected figures for the next two years.
§ Mr. Michael Forsyth
Information about the provision of residential places is given in annual statistical returns from local authorities. At 31 March 1988 the provisional number of residential places in local authority establishments was 167; the occupancy rate was 61 per cent. The local authorities' returns do not extend to planned provision.
