HC Deb 31 October 1988 vol 139 c547W
Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales (1) how many special schools he has visited since becoming Secretary of State for Wales;

(2) if he will visit Ysgol Belmont special school, Buckley, to meet the headmaster, his staff, senior students and parents to discuss difficulties relating to the school's work experience scheme; if he will seek sponsors to fund the Belmont school work experience scheme; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Walker

[holding answer 27 October 1988]: Until a fortnight ago I had not received any invitations from education authorities to visit a special school. I have now received an invitation to visit Ysgol Belmont special school from a member of Clwyd county council, which I am considering. It is for the local education authority and the school to consider future plans should the North-East Wales Institute decide not to accommodate the current work experience project within the new employment training scheme.
