To ask the Secretary of State for Energy what progress has been made concerning the transfer of the Government pipeline and storage system to the Ministry of Defence.

My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Defence and I have agreed, with the approval of the Prime Minister, that his Department will take over the Government pipeline and storage system from 1 April 1989. An Order in Council will be laid before the House as soon as possible.
