To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a statement on Her Majesty's Government's current attitude towards the high energy particle physics facilities at CERN in Switzerland; and whether Britain intends to maintain its annual subscription.

Mr. Jackson

The Government are studying the implications of the CERN council's decisions on the various recommendations made by the CERN review committee, chaired by Professor Abragam, and will make a statement before the end of this year.
