§ Mr. StrangTo ask the Secretary of State for Employment how many specialist inspectors are employed by the Health and Safety Executive; in what disciplines they are employed; and whether he has any plans to increase the number of specialist inspectors.
§ Mr. NichollsOn 1 October 1988 there were 204 specialist inspectors in post in the Health and Safety Executive working in the explosives, construction engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical (including biotechnology) and electrical disciplines. Of these, 192 were working in the Health and Safety Executive's technology division. The executive plans to increase the number of specialist inspectors in the Health and Safety Executive's technology division to around 230 by the end of 1988–89.
