HC Deb 27 October 1988 vol 139 c325W
Dr. Thomas

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what evidence exists for a causal relationship between exposure to radiation doses and cancer.

Mrs. Currie

Evidence over many years from laboratory research in animals and from epidemiological studies suggest that exposure to various forms of radiation can cause certain cancers. The available evidence has been reviewed by international groups including the International Commission for radiation protection, the committee on the biological effects of ionising radiation and the United Nations scientific committee on the effects of radiation whose reports are publicly available.
