HC Deb 27 October 1988 vol 139 c327W
Sir Michael McNair-Wilson

To ask the Secretary of State for Health when the present contracts concerning medical staff including doctors working in the National Health Service are due for renegotiation.

Mr. Mellor

The contractual arrangements for doctors in the hospital and community health services are agreed as a result of national negotiations between the health departments and the professions. There are no plans at present for negotiations on this subject.

Following the White Paper "Promoting Better Health" (Cm. 249) published in November 1987, changes are to be made to general practitioners' terms of service and remuneration system. Discussions on implementing these changes are under way with representatives of GPs.
