§ Lord Melchett
asked Her Majesty's Government:
Whether they will list the statutory and non-statutory permissions, consents or other authorisations which British Nuclear Fuels Ltd. would have to receive before they constructed a discharge pipe running from their plant at Sellafield to discharge low active effluent from the Sellafield site into the sea.
The Earl of Caithness
British Nuclear Fuels Ltd. would require licence under the Food and Environment Protection Act 1985. It is a matter for the local planning authority to determine if Planning Permission is required under the Town and Country Planning Act 1971. Permission may also be required from the Nuclear Installations Inspectorate of the Health and Safety Executive.
