To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he will make a further statement on the number of enterprise agencies operating in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Cope

There are currently 425 local enterprise agencies operating throughout the United Kingdom. Of these, 385 are approved under the terms of the Finance Act 1982, which allows business sector sponsors tax relief on their contributions to such bodies.
