HC Deb 25 October 1988 vol 139 c194W
102. Dr. Goodson-Wickes

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what action his Department is taking to deal with skill shortages in the south-east of England; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Cope

The continuing strength of the economy is leading to increasing demand for skills. But it is primarily the responsibility of employers to meet their skill needs. The Government has increased their investment in training massively since 1979, particularly for young people with YTS and for the unemployed with employment training.
